Clinical Rotations in Virginia: Georgetown-Affiliated Training for IMGs
Virginia's two rotations both sit in the DC metro area, and both are outpatient-focused, but they serve different goals. One is built around independent, hands-on patient care in Pediatrics; the other pairs you with one of the most academically credentialed mentors on our entire roster.
Virginia Rotations at a Glance
| Rotation | Specialty | City | Setting | Price |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pediatrics: Medical Director | Pediatrics | Arlington | Outpatient | $2,000 |
| Family Medicine: Georgetown Associate Professor | Family Medicine | Alexandria | Outpatient | $2,500 |
Pediatrics with Real Clinical Independence
The Arlington Pediatrics rotation is explicitly designed to teach how pediatric care is managed in the US system, not just to have you observe it. You progress toward seeing patients independently, conducting physical examinations, presenting to the preceptor, proposing management plans, and working directly in the EMR from early in the rotation. At $2,000, it is one of the more hands-on outpatient Pediatrics placements on our roster.
Family Medicine with a Georgetown Associate Professor
The Inova Alexandria Hospital rotation is led by an Associate Professor at Georgetown University School of Medicine with 39 years of active practice and five current medical school clinical professorships, spanning Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, and Geriatric Medicine. The resulting letter of recommendation is written on the physician's personal letterhead and highlights those academic affiliations directly, a distinct kind of endorsement compared to a standard clinic LOR. At $2,500, it accommodates up to 4 students.
What Both Virginia Rotations Include
- A personalized letter of recommendation on hospital or clinic letterhead
- A $500 deposit applied toward your total balance, due before your start date
- Standard required documents: updated CV, AAMC standardized immunization records, and your medical school transcript or ID
How to Choose Between Them
If you are applying Pediatrics and want to build demonstrable clinical independence you can speak to in interviews, Arlington is the more targeted choice. If you are applying Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, or Geriatrics and want an LOR carrying serious academic weight, the Georgetown-affiliated Alexandria rotation is hard to match at this price point.
