Rotation overview
- Dive into the depths of Internal Medicine with an esteemed Internist renowned for his extensive medical practice spanning two decades, noteworthy publications, and contributions to television production. This unique rotation is hosted at his hospital-based primary care clinic located within the precincts of Ascension Saints Mary Hospital campus. However, it's important to note that the hospital’s policy restricts inpatient rounding activities.
- Opportunities for rounding are available once week at one of the Internist’s affiliated hospitals, which include Thorek Community First Hospital, Kindred Hospital and Humboldt Park Hospital. Interested participants are encouraged to demonstrate initiative by inquiring about these rounding opportunities, keeping in mind that availability is limited to two students per session due to logistical constraints.
- Throughout the rotation, participants will develop practical skills in oral presentation, navigate the complexities of computer clinical documentation through Electronic Medical Records (EMR), and delve into medical ethics and clinical decision-making processes. The rotation follows a structured weekly schedule from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, providing ample opportunity for immersive learning. The exact timings may be subject to slight change.
- Upon completion, participants will receive a personalized Letter of Recommendation (LOR) on a hospital letterhead. Please note, the outlined hours may vary in response to patient load and the number of attending students, ensuring a tailored and enriching educational experience.
