Psychiatry Rotations in North Carolina: Training with UNC Chapel Hill Faculty
The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill needs no introduction on a residency application, and our North Carolina rotation puts you directly inside its Department of Psychiatry. It is also, at $1,800, one of the most affordable placements on our entire roster relative to the seniority of the mentor teaching it.

Breadth Across Psychiatric Subspecialties
Most outpatient psychiatry rotations focus on one or two patient populations. This one is unusually broad: you will see emergency psychiatry, addiction medicine, precision medicine, and ecopsychology cases within a single 4-week placement, across a genuinely diverse patient population. For a student who has not yet settled on a psychiatric subspecialty, that range is valuable exposure you will not find at a smaller private clinic.
Why the Mentor's Background Matters
Your preceptor's two decades as Clinical Director of UNC's counseling and psychological services means they have supervised, taught, and evaluated students at scale, long before you arrive. That teaching experience tends to show up in how a rotation is run: more structured feedback, clearer expectations, and a letter of recommendation written by someone with a long track record of assessing trainees fairly.
Who This Rotation Is For
If you want a well-known academic medical center on your CV and a broad view of psychiatric subspecialties before you commit to one, this rotation is a strong fit, especially at this price point. If you already know you want a narrower, one-on-one focus in a specific subspecialty like geriatric psychiatry or child and adolescent care, our New Jersey or Houston rotations may be a better match.
What's Included
- A personalized letter of recommendation on clinic letterhead
- A $500 deposit applied toward your total balance, due before your start date
- Standard required documents: updated CV, AAMC standardized immunization records, and your medical school transcript or ID
